A moment for our home city

October 9, 2018

Outside our windows, we’re watching Glens Falls change.

Our firm was founded here 30 years ago. These days, our work takes us far afield, through many states and across the country, but our home is still Hometown, USA, Glens Falls, N.Y.
Glens Falls has long been a “Greatest Generation” community, independent, solid, patriotic and charming, a home that inspired artists and entrepreneurs. Its assets belie its modest population, recalling a bygone era of considerable wealth. It may be the smallest city in America with a professional symphony. It has a nationally acclaimed art museum, The Hyde Collection For decades, it had two fiercely competitive local banks directly across the street from each other.
Just as Detroit was the Motor City and Schenectady electrified and hauled the world, Glens Falls insured the nation through the venerable Glens Falls Insurance Co., healed it with sophisticated medical devices manufactured locally, and produced the fine Finch Paper upon which its most important documents were printed.

Though much has changed, Finch and the medical instrument companies endure and Glens Falls itself remains the financial, health care and professional services center of the Adirondack region and the northern light of the Capital Region.

Now, it’s in the midst of a cultural and economic reawakening.

A new culinary arts school has opened downtown, established by  SUNY Adirondack. There are two live performance theaters (Charles R. Wood Theater and, now, Park Theater); original theater in the summer, a film festival in the fall; a surprising array of notable restaurants; breweries, coffee houses and open mics; new condominiums and apartments a few minutes’ walk from museums and ski and bike trails; a historic restored hotel, and cozy homes in affordable neighborhoods with schools and parks nearby.

We love Glens Falls, and we like what we’re seeing.  We thought you might like a peek, too.
