Kevin Bruen

Kevin Bruen served as the 17th Superintendent of the New York State Police from 2021 until 2023. Prior to his confirmation as Superintendent, Kevin served as both Acting Superintendent and First Deputy Superintendent. His more than 20-year career with the State Police started with his position as Assistant Counsel. He has served as a legal consultant and advisor to district attorneys, investigators, troopers and commanders on criminal investigations and proceedings. He also served as a subject matter expert in legislative matters that involved the State Police.
Prior to the New York State Police, Kevin served as Deputy Commissioner and Counsel of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. At DOCCS, he directed a 40-person team of attorneys, paraprofessionals and administrative support that provided legal services to the Commissioner and 54 state correctional facilities with 54,000 inmates and 30,000 employees. Prior to his state service, Kevin worked as an Assistant District Attorney in both the Kings and Warren County District Attorney’s Offices. He is a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School.
