Jimmer Who?
Alex Taylor, a Glens Falls High School classmate of basketball sensation Jimmer Fredette, will sing for a share of $100,000 next Monday night in the finals of NBC’s “The Sing-Off.”
Taylor’s a cappella group, the Dartmouth Aires, advanced to the final three of the singing competition in a program that aired Monday night on NBC (WNYT for local viewers).
The finals will be aired Monday evening, Nov. 28, with the winners collecting a $100,000 and a recording contract from Sony.
Taylor was the valedictorian of the Glens Falls High Class of 2007, the same year Fredette graduated as one of the most celebrated high school players in the history of upstate New York basketball. Fredette, as you may have heard, went on to an outstanding college career at BYU before being selected 10th overall in the 2011 NBA draft.
But while the NBA labor lockout has prevented Fredette from showcasing his talents for the Sacramento Kings, Taylor and his fellow Dartmouth Aires have been showcasing theirs to the approval of audiences and judges alike in the a cappella contest.
Regardless of how the competition turns out, it’s pretty remarkable to see two such amazingly gifted performers emerge from the same graduating class in Glens Falls. It’s a point of justifiable civic pride. Nice going, gentlemen, and good luck to the Dartmouth Aires in the finals of “The Sing-Off.”
